Terrebonne, QC - While the 2011 season hasn't been as busy on track as she hoped, Kara Guenette will be back in action this week as she will take on Canada's best at Le Circuit Karting Mont-Tremblant for this year's ASN Canadian National Karting Championships. Making the switch to the two-speed Rotax Max DD2 class, Kara will bid for a National Championship along with trip to the Rotax Grand Finals, held this year in Al Ain, UAE. Competing aboard a J3 Competition/Kosmic Kart package, Guenette is ready to tackle this new challenge in her motorsports career.
"It's feels really good to be back in a go-kart. Even after being out of a kart for a while, I was actually up to speed very quickly. It didn't feel like it had been 4 months," smiled Guenette. "It was very different jumping into a DD2 for my first time back, given I had never driven a DD2 before, but overall it feels great to drive again."
The switch to the two-speed Rotax DD2 is something Kara has quickly adapted to in pre-Nationals testing. Not only is the DD2 faster that the Rotax Senior kart she has raced in the past, it also utilizes the use of front brakes, for deeper and harder braking.
"It's very fun to drive, I can't wait to race it. Getting used to the shifting and the braking felt normal to me, but I still had to adjust to get the maximum out of the kart."
Kara started this season in the Internationally famous Florida Winter Tour competing in the extremely talented Rotax Senior class. Taking on some the of best Rotax pilots from around the world in her first season as Senior, Kara held her own, earning a best finish of eleventh in Ocala in a series that saw over 60 different drivers take part in her class alone.
But since then Kara has turned her focus to 2012.
"I'm very happy to start in cars. I'm excited to see how it feels race in a car and in the series. The competition in the Touring Car series is very close and races are always exciting. It's very different, so I am ready to start learning and getting experience."
But before she makes the complete transition to the Touring Cars, Kara has her eyes on the Canadian Nationals DD2 Championship.
The ASN Canada FIA Canadian Karting Championships presented by Canadian Tire will be broadcast via live internet stream on the Kart Racing Network starting Friday, August 12 at www.kartracingnetwork.com. Event coverage can also be followed at www.eKartingNews.ca
